Site Prep & Rough Grading
From a raw lot to a build-ready footprint, we pull the stumps, clear the brush, and rough grade the ground so it's level, shaped for drainage, and ready for the next step — a pad, a foundation, a driveway, or just a lot you can finally use. Compact equipment gets into tight lots, and the grade gets set right the first time.
Graded, Leveled & Ready
Most site prep calls fall into three buckets. Here's the work we take on and what you can expect on your lot before the pad, the foundation, or the next crew shows up.

Rough Grading & Lot Leveling
High spots cut, low spots filled, and the ground shaped to a rough grade that's level where it needs to be and pitched where water should run — not flat enough to hold a puddle and not so steep it washes out. We set the grade so the lot drains right and the next step lands on ground that's already been thought through.
Stump & Root Grubbing
Stumps and roots pulled clean instead of buried or ground down and left to rot under whatever gets built on top of them. A stump buried under a pad or a driveway doesn't go away — it decays, settles, and leaves a soft spot or a sinkhole a few seasons later. We grub it out so the ground stays solid.
Building Footprint Preparation
The exact footprint of a shed, outbuilding, garage, or addition cleared, grubbed, and graded to grade so the foundation, slab, or pad crew walks onto ground that's prepped for them — level, compacted where it counts, and shaped so water moves away from the build instead of pooling under it.
Set the Grade, Set Up the Build
Site prep is the step between raw land and a buildable lot, and it's where most of the expensive problems either get prevented or get built in. A stump buried under a shed pad rots, settles, and leaves a soft spot that sinks a season later. A rough grade that runs water toward the building instead of away from it turns the footprint into a puddle every spring. A lot that's never been leveled right fights every crew that walks onto it — the pad guy, the foundation crew, the driveway contractor — because nobody's working off ground that's been set up for them.
We've been prepping lots across Burnett and Polk County since 1999, and the approach is the same on every one: read the lay of the land first, figure out where the water's meant to go, and set the rough grade before the first load of material shows up. A tight residential lot doesn't grade the same way a multi-acre clearing does, and the access changes what we can bring in and how we move material around. We match the machine to the lot instead of forcing one rig onto every job, we pull the stumps and roots instead of burying them, and we shape the drainage into the grade instead of leaving it for the next crew to fix.
The goal is a lot that's open, level where it needs to be, and shaped so water moves the right way — ready for a building pad, a foundation, a driveway, or just ready to use. When the site prep's done right, the next step just lands on it: the pad goes in level, the foundation sits on solid ground, and you're not out there in a year regrading around a low spot that should've been filled the first time. That's the standard we prep to — ground that's set up once and set up right, so everything built on top of it stays put.
Walk, Grade, Hand Off
No two lots prep the same. We keep it straightforward — read the grade, clear and shape the ground, and leave it ready for whatever comes next.
Walk & Grade
We walk the lot, confirm the footprint and the access, and set the grade before anything moves — where the high spots get cut, where the low spots get filled, and how the water's meant to run off the finished grade.

Stumps and roots pulled, brush and debris hauled off, and the ground cut and filled to rough grade — not finish work, but the shape of the lot set right so the next step lands on ground that makes sense.

The footprint leveled, the drainage shaped, and the lot left clean and ready for the pad, the foundation, or the next crew — ground that's been prepped once and prepped right instead of fought through twice.
